Whispers in Darkness

Casebook filed Nov 14, 2009 by Dr. Armitage (per request by Jocularis)

Akeley Farmhouse

Strange climatic events have been plaguing Arkham for the past months. Something dark and alien, which for years has waited in the shadow of the human race, has come to start a new phase of their plans, a phase where mortal men play an important role inside their plans. The whole matter began with the historic and unprecedented floods in the country. It was the 3rd of November 1927.  After the strange floods and news of the difficult rescues, many of our friends embarked on curious discussions and appealed to us to shed what light we could on the subject.

Torrential rains unearth a mystery that takes you to the Vermont countryside. There, you will face the other-worldly terrors lurking in the woods outside the Akeley farmhouse.

Overall brilliant. Played with 3 investigators.
    Few issues:

    SPOILER!!!!!

    Big bug:
1)when police made you an agent, story breaks due to missing reference (trying to catch you again and so). Simple conclusion – from paragraph 14 go to 23 and tread it in future as if arrested.
    2) on day 8 ignore the timetable text if {E} is completed, just handle out clues.
    Minor bugs/enhancement:
Replace creature name wizard with warlock.
When you got Ancient tablet unlock C (or second part of it).

This one was overall excellent. We played with 2 investigators. Documents are great. The Farmhouse is neat. And the new monsters are excellent.

However, I found that some things could be improved. The mythos cards do not really fit into the story. I would recommend to ignore them (the cup is really unclear –how many monsters of each ?– what do we do with MiGo and Warlock that are suppose to be returned to the BOX ? What if the monster limit is reached and the time line suggest that you put 3 monsters on the board ??).

The timeline refers a lot to “you”. Is it intended to be the first player ? All investigators ?

The thing really annoyed me is the end.

On day 12, you can go to Vermont, where there is 3 or 4 extra days to play ? The timeline moves whatever you do there and you can reach the end of the game (timeline ends) just by chance. I do not feel it sounds right. Maybe, once you are in Akeley Farmhouse, you should just stop the timeline.

    Minor:
Wanted from the CoDP is different from Wanted in Doc 3.

Anyway, good job. An update with that implements these comments and Vodnyk’s ones could be neat.
